Greg's Path to a Bright Future in IT
December 9, 2024
Meet Greg, a 36-year old from Chapin, SC, who has always had a passion for technology. With a strong desire to build a career in Information Technology, Greg’s success shows in his dedication and the opportunities provided through Goodwill’s programs.
In 2013, Greg attended Midlands Technical College for IT and later earned a professional certificate in Google IT Support from Coursera in 2023. His journey with Goodwill began in 2015 when he worked as a Production Supervisor and eCommerce associate at the Garners Ferry Goodwill. He also worked as a custodian at Fort Jackson through the SCVIA program, which supports individuals with disabilities, including Greg, who has autism.
In February 2024, Greg’s wife, a manager at the Lexington Goodwill, encouraged him to apply for the Industry Specific Training (IST) program, which offers specialized pathways like the IT Academy. With his strong interest in IT and a drive to further his skills, Greg was accepted into the 20-week IT Academy program at the Resource and Opportunity Center in Columbia.
Greg embraced the challenge, attending classes three days a week, and soon earned several certifications, including:
- CompTIA IT Fundamentals Certification
- CompTIA A+ Certification
- CompTIA Network+ Certification
Greg’s journey is a shining example of how Goodwill’s programs empower individuals with the skills and confidence needed to pursue their career dreams. We are proud to support Greg and many others in their quest for a brighter future.
