Goodwill’s skilled trades trainings can help you build your future with your own hands. Kelly, a 20-year-old Upstate woman, became interested in welding as a high schooler. She started paying her own way through welding classes, but the cost of certifications was holding her back from fully pursuing her passion at the pace she wanted. An instructor pointed her to Goodwill, knowing our Skilled Trades pathway connects people to certification courses FOR FREE. Within five months, Kelly had her next certification in hand.

“I was able to get immediate help, meaning no lost time due to having to save up money,” said Kelly. “I’m really thankful for how Goodwill and my instructors helped me continue pursuing welding.”

Kelly now works for a manufacturing company in the Upstate, putting her skills and education to good use.

“I was terrified when I first started. It’s a male-dominated trade. What if I’m bad at it? I’m glad I took the leap, because now I can see there was nothing to be scared of.”
