Leigh Chandler Meyle’s story is one of resilience, determination, and triumph. Once incarcerated at Leath Correctional Institution in Greenwood, SC, Leigh faced an uphill battle to reclaim her life. Leigh embraced Goodwill’s Pathway Home program that helps those near release reconnect with the local workforce. During her incarceration, she worked diligently, earning credits in roles such as Custodian Helper, Wardkeeper Assistant, and Landscape Laborer. These opportunities equipped her with the skills and a renewed sense of purpose.

Upon her release on December 1, 2023, Leigh took another bold step toward stability and growth. She moved into the Soteria House for Women, a place of support and structure, and quickly secured full-time employment. Now, she works with pride on an encapsulation machine for Earth’s Creation, finding meaning in her contributions and earning an Employee of the Month honor.

For Leigh, success isn’t just measured by her employment or independence – it’s about defying expectations, even her own. “Accomplishing something you never thought you would accomplish,” she reflects, “because I am doing something that I only dreamed I could do.”

Her journey wasn’t without challenges. Leigh admits her biggest obstacle was herself. “I get up in my head sometimes,” she shares, describing how self-doubt once held her back. By changing her thought process and perspective, she found strength to move forward. “I’m doing things that successful people are supposed to do. It makes me feel good because I’m doing the right thing every day.”
