Rhonda Sims, a dedicated Goodwill associate at our Moonville store, has recently achieved a remarkable milestone in her life: the publication of her book, “A Slight Interruption”. This heartfelt work is not just a product of her imagination, but also a testament to her perseverance through life’s challenges.

We sat down with Rhonda to discuss her new work and how she began her journey into a new passion…

What inspired you to write “A Slight Interruption”? Was there a specific moment or experience that sparked the idea?
Rhonda’s journey into writing began with a chance encounter that sparked her imagination. Working as a receptionist at a doctor’s office, she crossed paths with Nicholas Sparks, who was then a pharmaceutical representative. Inspired by their conversations and Sparks’ own journey into writing, Rhonda embarked on her literary endeavor. “A Slight Interruption” took shape gradually, drawing from her own experiences and the stories she carried with her.

What motivates you to write, even on days when it feels challenging?
Even on challenging days, Rhonda’s passion for writing kept her going. Her rich imagination finds inspiration in everyday moments, like watching her great-grandchildren play, or delving into the pages of a good book. For Rhonda, reading is not just a hobby, but a vital part of her creative process.

Are there authors or books that have significantly influenced your writing style or perspective?
Nicholas Sparks remains a significant influence on Rhonda’s writing style. His ability to weave poignant narratives left a lasting impression on her own storytelling approach. She fondly recalls how Sparks offered early encouragement and constructive feedback on her writing, shaping her path as an author.

Do you have a favorite writing ritual or habit that helps you get into the creative zone?
Rhonda’s writing sanctuary is a corner of her bedroom, where she immerses herself in creativity with a cup of hot cocoa beside her. This space fuels her creativity and allows ideas to flow freely as she is filled with gratitude for her journey and excitement for her future.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers looking to start their own projects?
To aspiring writers, Rhonda offers heartfelt advice: “Embrace the gift of writing. Despite the uncertainties of success, the journey itself is profoundly rewarding.” Being an author, Rhonda believes, is a title of immense pride, regardless of commercial acclaim.

Recently, Rhonda participated on our very first Book Signing Event at our SecondStory bookstore in January. We were delighted to have her featured as one of our three authors who showcased their work for the public and signed copies for the community.
