12 Days of Goodwill - Day Six; Meet Mattilda
December 16, 2023
Once facing the daunting challenges of homelessness and legal troubles immediately after high school, Mattilda’s life took a transformative turn with the help of Goodwill’s unwavering support. Struggling against disadvantageous conditions and enduring prolonged employment, Mattilda found herself at a crossroads where making ends meet seemed like an insurmountable task.
It was the compassionate guidance and encouragement from her Case Manager at Pendleton Place that marked the beginning of a new chapter for Mattilda. Recognizing the need for a fresh start, she was referred to the LifeLaunch Program with Goodwill, a decision that would prove pivotal in reshaping the trajectory of her life.
Armed with curiosity and hope, Mattilda inquired about the program’s benefits and quickly recognized the potential it held for positive change. In June 2023, she took the courageous step of enrolling in LifeLaunch. This decision not only opened doors but also led her to Greenville Technical College, where she earned forklift and OSHA 10 job training certifications.
Just a week later, Mattilda’s newfound skills and certifications paved the way for a job placement at Univar, where she now drives forklifts. This employment opportunity marked a significant milestone in her journey towards financial independence and stability.
The positive momentum continued in July when Mattilda received approval to move into her own place of residence. Thanks to Goodwill’s comprehensive assistance, she not only acquired a resume upgrade complete with valuable certifications, but also secured a job and, most importantly, a home of her own. This multi-faceted support from Goodwill not only provided Mattilda with the tools for professional success but also the foundation for personal stability and self-sufficiency.
Mattilda’s success story is a testament to transformative impact of Goodwill’s holistic approach, offering individuals like her the chance to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.
