Trailblazing Impact: Goodwill Announces New Thrift Retail Experience to Connect Greenville Community

April 15, 2025

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina (GIUMSC) has announced an exciting new venture, Goodwill at the Trail, a reimagined shopping and community experience at their newly renovated Haywood Road location, directly connected to the iconic Swamp Rabbit Trail. This unique destination blends Goodwill’s mission-driven impact with exciting new retail concepts and community services – and is launched in tandem with the inspiring Goodwill Legacy Wall Brick Campaign.

Goodwill at the Trail is not just a store – it’s an experience. Shoppers and trail-goers alike can explore three unique concepts under one roof:

  • Auten’s Loft – A curated boutique offering high-quality, specialty items all at thrift prices.
  • SecondStory – A cozy thrift bookstore stocked with thousands of titles.
  • A New Retail Store- A refreshed, modernized Goodwill shopping space built around sustainability and discovery.

More than just a shopping destination, Goodwill at the Trail will also be home to the Upstate Resource and Opportunity Center (ROC) – a comprehensive hub for training, career navigation, and wraparound services that help individuals find meaningful, life-changing employment.

“Goodwill at the Trail represents the next step in our evolution – one where our mission and retail experience connect more deeply with the community,” said Pat Michaels, President & CEO of GIUMSC. “We are creating something entirely new for our 16-county footprint – a space that invites people in, supports their goals, and allows them to be part of something bigger. This new opportunity connects Goodwill to the growth of the Upstate community by offering a one-of-a-kind thrifting destination where people can access the new Swamp Rabbit Trail before or after they help others by donating or shopping at our stores.”

To mark this milestone, GIUMSC is inviting the community to quite literally become part of the legacy through the Goodwill Legacy Wall Campaign. For a recurring monthly gift of $20.25, supporters can secure a personalized brick to be embedded in the front wall of the new Haywood building – a permanent tribute to their commitment to Goodwill’s mission of transforming lives through the power of work.

“This isn’t just a fundraiser, it’s a chance to make your mark,” said Chunsta Miller, GIUMSC Vice President of Communication and Public Engagement. “Every Goodwill participant has a story, and the brick campaign provides an opportunity for those stories to grow and flourish. It serves as a lasting symbol of the belief in people, in second chances, and in the future we are building together.”

The Legacy Wall Campaign provides a chance to:

  • Leave a lasting legacy – Every brick becomes a permanent part of GIUMSC history.
  • Support the mission – Every dollar fuels job training and employment programs.
  • Be part of something bigger – Celebrate your role in transforming lives across SC.

Whether someone walks, bikes, shops, learns, or gives – Goodwill at the Trail invites them to be a part of a community-focused future. Together, the community is building more than just a wall. They are building opportunity.

Goodwill is currently working to transform the Haywood Location and expects it to be open in July of 2025.
