Richard Chrysler's Path to Independence: From Military Service to a New Start with Goodwill's Support

November 11, 2024

Richard Chrysler, a U.S. Navy veteran, faced significant challenges after his military service. Following his honorable discharge, Richard encountered hardships that left his family in a difficult position. After being laid off and dealing with prolonged employment, he fell behind on his mortgage by three months. The family then received a foreclosure notice, forcing them to confront the looming threat of homelessness.

In December 2023, Richard found support through Goodwill’s Homebound Heroes program, where he met with a Career Navigator who helped him chart a path forward. With Goodwill’s assistance, Richard enrolled in a Forklift Job Training Certification program and received essential supportive services, including a tablet to aid in his job search and skill development.

Through this program, Richard received comprehensive job placement support, including resume assistance and interview coaching, which ultimately led to a position as a forklift operator at Pratt Industries. With steady employment, Richard not only regained financial stability, but also restored his family’s sense of security and hope for the future.

Richard’s determination, combined with Goodwill’s supportive services, helped him rebuild his life and pursue a stable career. Today, he stands as a stronger, more confident version of himself, grateful for the opportunity to provide for his family once more.
