Goodwill Welcomes Shannon Wood as New Vocational Services Director

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina is proud to introduce Shannon Wood as the non-profit's new Director of Vocational Services. Shannon is an experienced and accomplished professional with an exceptional knowledge of the Human Services field. With a diverse educational background and extensive experience, Shannon is a valuable asset to Goodwill and - more broadly - the people of Upstate and Midlands South Carolina.

In this role, Shannon will provide the overall direction of all Vocational Training and Employment Programs, including South Carolina Vocations & Individual Advancement (SCVIA), Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN), Ticket to Work, and other departmental activities. Shannon will lead the vocational training department as part of an organization devoted to empowering individuals with disabilities to live more independent lives.

Shannon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science, with an emphasis in Allied Health, from the University of South Carolina-Aiken. Additionally, she has a Master of Public Health degree with a specialization in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Capella University, which has enabled her to gain a deep understanding of the knowledge, skills, and global perspective needed to make a positive impact in public health. Most recently, Shannon obtained her doctorate in Human Services with a focus on Leadership and Organizational Management, further demonstrating her expertise and knowledge in the field.

Over her nearly 15-year career, Shannon has helped many individuals with disabilities overcome employment barriers and achieve independence. She has worked with people with disabilities across various industries, including manufacturing, hospitality, food services, and retail. As one of the founding members of the South Carolina Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) chapter, Shannon has demonstrated leadership and commitment to advancing the rights and opportunities of individuals with disabilities. As a member of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities organization, she has joined the charge to promote progressive policies and enhance human rights for people with disabilities.

Apart from her professional accomplishments, Shannon is a graduate of Leadership Aiken County and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She is passionate about creating inclusive and supportive environments, promoting diversity and equality in the workplace, and contributing to the betterment of the community. Shannon's dedication to personal and professional growth is evident in her ongoing pursuit of knowledge and desire to make a positive impact.
