(Greenville, SC) Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina (GIUMSC) is dedicating a new mural on the side of their Haywood Road Clearance Center in Greenville to honor their 50th Anniversary in South Carolina. The mural - a partnership between GIUMSC, Blank Canvas Mural Company, and Greenville County Schools - is the first of many initiatives planned throughout 2023 to highlight the Goodwill’s mission to “provide access, information, and resources to help people improve their lives through the power of work.”

Community members and the media are invited to the dedication on February 28, 2023, 11 a.m. at 115 Haywood Road in Greenville, SC. The dedication will feature remarks by GIUMSC President/CEO Patrick Michaels and Blank Canvas muralist Adam Schrimmer.

The ceremony follows a month-long process where community members, students from Greenville County Schools, and Goodwill associates all helped paint the 1440 sq. ft. mural that faces the new Swamp Rabbit Trail - Laurens Road Extension. The mural depicts a girl’s dream of a thriving community where differences are valued and people work together to spread goodwill to all. The new artwork is the first in a series of murals GIUMSC plans to paint on stores in the Upstate and Midlands of South Carolina.

“For 50 years, Goodwill has been working with job seekers and their families to help them realize their potential and find a path to lead independent lives. This mural is a representation of that work in the Greenville community; shining a light on the power that work has in someone’s life and the people and partnerships that thrive around us. Sharing ‘goodwill to all’ is more than a slogan for us; it’s a call to action for our associates, participants, and partners to spread throughout our communities,” said Pat Michaels, President and CEO of GIUMSC.

Goodwill commissioned the mural with Blank Canvas Mural Company founder Adam Schrimmer to highlight the spirit and determination of the Greenville community by depicting people working toward fruitful lives and generational success. Black Canvas Mural Company’s work can be seen in a variety of other murals throughout the Greenville area.
